The World After

The World After is a film that tells the story of multiple identity quests.

Ali, a 28-year-old Afghan man, was forced to seek refuge in Canada with his family in October 2021, targeted by the Taliban, who had returned to power in Afghanistan.

The reason: during the war, he worked as a cook at Camp Nathan Smith in Kandahar, where Canadian troops were stationed.

Among the soldiers who spent time there was Martin Forgues, now a journalist, essayist, and independent documentary filmmaker, with whom Ali had kept in touch over the years. Martin was able to help Ali escape the clutches of the Taliban by facilitating his departure from Afghanistan and his arrival in Canada with his family.

But the story of Ali and many others tells much more than meets the eye: twenty years after September 11, 2001, what kind of world do we live in now? Through their respective journeys since September 11, 2001, we witness
all the long-term, lasting changes that fateful day brought about : accelerated growth of the military-industrial complex, endless wars, the emergence of subtle authoritarianism and imperialist revival in the West, culminating in the advent of a galvanized far right worldwide.

How can we find our place in this world with its pessimistic prognosis?
